Presentation

The Organic Catalysis team (CatOrg) was created on September 1, 2021 at the University of Strasbourg in the UMR 7042 LIMA, located at the European School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials. This is our provisional web page, pending the construction of our new institute website in early 2024.

Continuing our activities in Marseille since 2011, our team is interested in various topics centered on synthesis methodology in organic chemistry, particularly in the field of homogeneous organic catalysis.

Research Axes

1) Enantioselective synthesis of halogenated polycyclic structures

  • Development of multi-component reactions initiated by a Michael addition of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds
  • Control of regio-, diastereo- and enantio-selectivities as a function of substrates and catalysts (covalent or non-covalent)

2) Enantioselective synthesis of atropisomers by organocatalysis

  • Synthesis of compounds with axial chirality by combining enantioselective organocatalysis and central-to-axial chirality conversion
  • Development of more eco-friendly reaction conditions for central-to-axial chirality conversion
  • Applications to the synthesis of natural and/or bioactive atropisomers, and to ligand design
  • Atropisomer dearomatization studies

3) Organocatalysis via halogen bonding

  • Design of organocatalysts combining halogen and hydrogen bonds
  • Design of novel heteroatom-based halogen bond donors
  • Design of atropisomeric halogen bond donors
  • Application in innovative (enantioselective) transformations
