In the MeCSE team, we aim at exploiting sustainable resources to craft chemical compounds. We particularly focus on combining renewable electricity and abundant building blocks in chemical conversions of interest for synthesis and energy storage. In the goal to swiften the electrification of these transformations, we engineer ad hoc electrocatalytic systems at the molecular level.
The application scope revolves around the reductive upgrading of base and fine chemicals by electrocatalytic couplings with available synthons, such as H2O, CO(2) or NxOy.
Our studies span from the preparation of molecular transition-metal catalysts to electrochemical investigations and electrosynthetic isolation of target compounds. We pay very close attention to the mechanistic understanding of the systems we developed, aided by spectroscopic methods and computational approaches. This methodology is our basis to design original strategies in molecular electrocatalysis.
